Today (Jan 26th, 7:30) I went to the joint concert for chief Joseph and Bozeman high school. Overall the concert seemed almost as if it was professionally run. The only thing I didn't like was programs were hard to find, and there were few of them. All three groups played Mazingly I was supposed for beIng a middle school band at how good they were. The ensemble knew where to go and how/when to execute it, this speed transitional time up significantly.
There were three conductors and from what I saw they were very clear in what they wanted. Cues appeared well prepared and clear to students.
The students were very well prepared for this concert. I was most impressed by the seventh grade band, primarly their percussionists, they had complex and as emetic rhythms they they performed without error. The sound was intense and full for exciting pieces and gentle and constant for the softer pieces. From what I have seen and experienced I the past. I have whitnessed public schooling programs that have many pieces and the quality of the concert is poor, this concert had three pieces per ensemble, each piece you could tell was fun for the students who played it and energetic and exciting for the auidence, it literally let the ensemble "sparkle".
I wish I could have seen this concert--sounds like it was a good one!
ReplyDeleteI wonder, when you have a chance to see this same band at CJ next week, if you will be surprised by how far they have to go on their music for their next concert? That is one Mazing thing about younger groups is how faaaaaaaaaaar they come between passing the music out and the performance!
